What the partnership actually does
Snowflake Cortex AI now runs Claude models directly against data inside Snowflake, with Snowflake providing the governance, security, and observability layer Claude operates within. Customers can select the specific Anthropic model that fits a given workload without exporting sensitive data outside the Snowflake environment to get there. This builds on an integration Snowflake and Anthropic established in December 2025, and reflects a broader pattern in enterprise AI adoption this year: buyers no longer ask whether to use a large model, they ask which model, under what governance, with what controls.
Why this matters more than a typical vendor integration
Most Claude and Salesforce implementations we see fall into one of two patterns: either data gets exported to wherever Claude is being called from, creating a governance gap, or teams avoid Claude entirely and default to whatever's native to the platform, even when it's not the best-suited reasoning engine for the task. The Cortex AI integration removes that trade-off for any workload where the data already lives in Snowflake — which, given how many organizations are running Data 360 in zero-copy mode against a Snowflake warehouse, is an increasing share of enterprise data.
Where this fits inside an agentic architecture
- Use native Agentforce for workflows that are well-served by platform-native tooling and don't need general-purpose reasoning depth
- Route document-heavy, judgment-intensive, or cross-functional reasoning tasks to Claude, inside the same governed data boundary
- Apply one evaluation framework across both — a mixed Agentforce/Claude architecture still needs a single standard for what "safe" and "done" mean
This only pays off if the underlying data foundation is actually governed to begin with — see our piece on Data Cloud's zero-copy shift for what that foundation needs to look like before Claude or any other reasoning layer gets pointed at it.
